There are so many things that I love about Autumn. The beautiful colours of the leaves, the fact that it's totally OK to have 3 hot chocolates with whipped cream and marshmallows every day (in fact, I'm pretty sure it's illegal not to, right?), the dark vampier shades of nail polishes and makeup... but my favourite of them all? My favourite of them all has to be the layering of clothing.
As a huge fan of gilets/vests/[insert your own choice of sleeveless jacket synonym here], I love nothing more than being able to wear a gorgeously soft but thin roll neck/tee, amping up the look with a cozy faux fur gilet, or a leather jacket, or both. For me, layering is such an easy way to create instant chic - and I am all about being a lazy b*tch quick and easy ways to look more put together - so when I was asked to put together an outfit by Debenhams based upon my favourite layering item, I absolutely jumped at the chance...
... and then spent about 2 hours deciding on exactly which style and colour of faux fur gilet I desperately needed in my life #firstworldproblems.
Said
gilet (courtesy of the gorgeous Preen/Debenhams collab) which I have fallen in love with and have genuinely not taken
off over the last few weeks. I have so many faux fur gilets but I was immediately drawn to this for the stunning khaki and grey tones. This is just
so unique, but also completely wearable (demonstrated by the fact that I've worn it every single day for the past week #RecyclingQueen) and will definitely be seeing me through Autumn and Winter.
Next up, the ribbed Roll neck...
I would have to say that roll necks/turtle necks probably make up a good 80% of my winter wardrobe. They're cosy, they're warm and they work amazingly well layered underneath clothes
and they also mean you don't need to blend your makeup down your neck. This black,
ribbed option from Miss Selfridge at Debenhams is absolutely perfect as it's surprisingly thick, gorgeously well made and is also really stretchy - perfect for my thrice weekly Indian takeaways! - making it an absolute must have layering piece in the Autumn/Winter months.
Next up are the jeans of dreams. (BRB whilst I vom into my "cringe-worthy phrases Elle says" bucket). But seriously, these
Red herring skinny jeans*, alongside the Fat Face jeggings that I featured
here, are without a doubt one of the most comfy I own. A velvety black, stretchy pair that are made that extra little bit special with the gorgeous silver zipped hardware.
Now, I have a
lot of love for these boots which is funny to me because if you'd have told me that I'd be wearing kitten heels, in
any capacity a few months ago, I'd have sent you away to the fashion police because kitten heels are
not my thing. However, can we just take a moment for these absolute beauties from
Faith at Debenhams? I am utterly obsessed with these beige, pointed kitten heeled Chelsea boots and again - without sounding like a broken record [insert tired/bored emoji here] - I really haven't stopped wearing them since I got them. The perfect neutral boot for fall*
*Can you tell I'm getting slightly bored of writing Autumn 20 bajillion times in this post?
So now that I'm all layered up and ready to go
home and work all day from my bed, it's time for the finishing touch.
Yes, if you're UK based like me then the only remaining reason to wear sunglasses is to cover your makeup free face and eye bags -
that'll be everyday for me then... - but I
always have a pair of sunnies handy and my absolute must haves the past few weeks (and no doubt for a
very long time to come) are these beautiful, classic
Rayban Clubmaster glasses from Sunglass Hut. I love that they still have the minimalist style of a wayfarer but are slightly more modern and unique. I chose the tortoise shell shade because I feel like it flatters my hair colour/skin tone more and I honestly couldn't be happier with my pick. In case you couldn't already tell from my numerous postings on
Instagram ;)
So that brings my Autumnal layering post to an end. I absolutely love each piece which is why I decided to break it all down and bore you to death and go into detail for each one.
I would love to know what your favourite pieces are for layering in Autumn? Answers on a postcard.
... or, you know, in the comments below!
As always, thanks so much for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post.
