When it comes to beauty, I really couldn't be any less of a snob. Yes, whilst I swoon/stalk/dream of Charlotte Tilbury as much as the next blogger - #ThatRoseGoldPackagingThough #ThatClicheLife - I will also happily cake my face dress my face in drugstore only products if they're what I'm loving most makeup wise.
Recently, drugstore makeup is what I've been loving most lately - "Hallelujah" screams my purse - and I realised that some of my absolute holy grail/can't live without/my face would look like a pile of shit poo without these BAE'S products, all belong to the drugstore. So I thought, what better way to celebrate this than by doing an entire post based on my 5 budget makeup products.
I also used this as the perfect excuse to go out and buy back ups for said HG's and also have a bit of a splurge whilst I'm at it. Video evidence here [insert "can't look"/"purse, please don't hate me" emoji's here].
Bourjois Healthy mix serum foundation - First up is a product that I have used consistently for the last 6 months which, as a major foundation whore (yep, I am that girl that's forever on the hunt for the perfect foundation) is true testament to just how incredible this is. I'd say it has a light to medium coverage that is also buildable, but the thing that I love most about this is that it just looks like skin. So natural but also covers any redness, and it somehow manages to leave a dewy finish but lasts a long time too. This is almost the perfect foundation for me, which is kinda' like saying that Kanye loves someone as much as he loves himself. Yep, big things...
Collection Lasting perfection concealer - I won't bang on about this for long because I have mentioned it numerous times on my blog and youtube channel but in short, it's a very high coverage concealer that works well on my blacker than black under eyes and blemishes. It's long lasting, doesn't crease... basically, if I could marry this product, I would. Mrs Ellie Lasting Perfection... gotta ring to it right? ;)
Revlon lip butter in Strawberry Shortcake (£7.99) - This lip butter, in short, is pretty much what I wear on a day to day basis. I have big old lips - Oh hey there Jay Z... - so keeping my lips in good condition is pretty essential. This means that lipstick on a day to day is not really great for and me and this, this is where Revlon's lip butters come in. They are so incredibly moisturising and yet somehow, so pigmented. Strawberry shortcake is a gorgeous mid toned pink that's so brightening on my face (i.e makes me look like I've had a few hours sleep rather than none at all) and reminds me of a glossier Mac Angel, my favourite lipstick ever, putting it right up there at the top of my budget HG purchases.
Soap and glory archery brow pencil - I had a lot of love for this eyebrow product anyway, but it doesn't hurt when the lovely Becca Rose comments on your eyebrow game during drinks does it? ;) It's actually only when I don't have this in my life that I realise just how much I rely on it. The pencil, for me, provides the most perfect, natural filled in brow that really does just look like individual hairs almost (my todler-like description skills are out in full force today.) The spoolie is also fantastic - is that a weird thing to say? I feel like that's a weird thing to say - but it really does grab on to those brows and keep them in place. I couldn't be without this product (... well, I could, but my brows would look like utter shite) ;)
Maybelline Colour tattoo On and on bronze/Creamy beige - Another product that I've mentioned numerous times before but these beauties really are the best of the "paint pot"-esque bunch. Formulation wise, they apply seamlessly and stay on all day. These things seriously just don't budge, whatsoever. Colour wise? Maybelline girl, you've got this down... They have an incredible variety of colours but my two favourites which are so me, are On and on bronze, the perfect bronze - funny that - golden, shimmery shade that works amazingly as a base and by itself. The latter being Creamy beige which is the most perfect chic, sophisticated neutral eye colour. Very work/"formal meeting" friendly and definitely one I rely on no matter what the day, what the occasion.
... and here's one I made earlier. I'm wearing each product mentioned in this photo just so you can gauge what it looks like on. Blogger of the year and all that... [insert "totally kidding so please don't think I'm a twat" emoji here].
So this brings me to the end of this post. I have to admit - prepare for some loser vibes here ladies - I had so much fun rummaging through my makeup bag and picking out the pieces I really couldn't be without. It definitely made me rediscover some old favourites, as well as discovering that sometimes it really is best to stick to your - very limited i.e pink lips neutral eyes and "please turn me into Cara" brows - comfort zone.
